Every first Thursday in July and the following Tuesday (July 5 and 7) Brussels dresses up in the colors of the Ommegang. At this event more than 1400 costumed participants convene on the Grand Place after havig paraded through the Streets of Brussels.
In 1549, the emperor Charles Quint came to Brussels to present his son Philippe. This event has been celebrated ever sicne ever in Brussels and draws countless visitors to the Grand Place to see the re-enactment of this historic moment.
